Weapons technology involves further development of existing weapons systems. Particular value is placed on providing more energy to existing systems and channelling that energy more precisely. Thus weapons systems become more efficient and weapons do more damage.Each level of weapons technology increases the weapon strength of both ships and defense (in some Universes even shield domes) by 10 % of the base value. Weapons technology should be updated as fleet size grows. Compare the gain in weapon strength added by upgrading weapons tech to the cost of building more ships and pick whichever is cheaper, but also take into account that research cannot be destroyed while ships can.
Weapons tech is less important for Deathstar fleets due to the relatively high rapid fire (vs everything except shield domes, plasma turrets, and another Deathstar) and high weapon strength per cost of Deathstars.
Each upgrade also improves the strength of Interplanetary missiles.
