Also i was wondering, what about missiles, particularly interplanitary missiles. technically they're defense and you get points for building them, so do you lose those points when you send them out?

will someone please explain why my points went down after i built a colony? surely you should get a certain amount of points for having a colony? my colony ship wasn't destroyed so why was it lost?

You now have one less colony ship, so yes your points have gone down, you get no points for a colony. Points are based not on what you spend but on what you own, IE. if you pay to deconstruct something your points will go down, even thought you have spent resources it.
