Talk:Destroyer
From OGame Wiki
Just a thought - could stats be added to the ships pages detailing ratios - ie how many plasma cannons will a destroyer knock out? how many destroyers to kill a death star , destroyer vs battleship battle stats , that sort of thing thanks :) —preceding unsigned comment by 220.236.166.75 (talk • contribs)
- One destroyer can destroy one plasma cannon. Takes 51 Destroyers to take out one Death Star with a 100% chance of doing so. 6BS to take out 1 Destroyer with 100% chance fo doing so. Speedsim is a usefull tool for doing this. --Master Bob 07:17, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Last time I simmed it, it took 77 Destroyers to get 100% chance of taking out 1 RIP with equal techs Savage Sid 18:27, 1 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- yea thats right, I was confused.--Master Bob 23:58, 1 Jan 2006 (UTC)
- The ratios have little value because fleets are usually mixed, and the power of rapid fire depends a lot on the other fleet's mix. Lastdingo 09:15, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

I suggest a new text for shortcomings:
"Destroyers are both in production and fuel consumption very expensive and much slower than battleships and battlecruisers. They have rapid fire only against battlecruisers and light lasers - it's often necessary to compensate for this weakness by adding at the very least cruisers to the fleet mix."
This text is more appropriate because the examples in the legacy text (LF & RL) are quite arbitrary. Most small combat units can be used as fodder against a destroyer. The old text is even misleading, as a reader could get the impression that LF and RL are good for killing destroyers when in fact they're merely appropriate fodder. The old shortcoming text ignores the terribly low speed entirely. Lastdingo 09:15, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
And about Uses and Advantages: "Destroyers are used mainly to counter Plasma Turrets and Death Stars because of its sheer firepower and because Death Stars have less rapid fire rating against Destroyers than against any other combat ship class. This gives destroyers a good chance to interrupt the firing of a Death Star for one round." This text does not only tell about the use, but also why it's useful and because of what advantage. - I think brevity is more advantageous here.--75.45.118.28 17:33, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
