Recyclers are used to
harvest resources from a
debris field of a
planet after
combat. However they are pitifully weak in combat, slower than everything except a
Death Star, and are expensive to produce and run.

Uses and Advantages
This is the only ship that can get at those DFs that orbit the planet after any battle where ships were destroyed. In the beginning game, use your recyclers are alternatives to raiding. With "FoxGame" you can see which DFs are more than 20.000 large very easily, so target those. While they are slow, the worst that can happen is that you won't get the DF. The best is that your recyclers come home full of free resources! This is better for miners because there is no possibility of a ninja. Minimize the time it takes to collect debris after a large battle by sending your recyclers to the planet's debris field (even if it is still empty at this point) to pick up the debris. Time your main fleet's attack so that it occurs about 15-30 seconds before the recyclers arrive at the debris field. (In some cases you will have to crash a probe first in order to create a debris field or the recyclers wont fly).
Shortcomings
Slow, useless in combat, and rather expensive. However, it can recoup its cost by filling its cargo hold just once at a DF.
