This ship is used in the colonization of empty planets. They enable a colony to be settled. Upon landing, the ship is deconstructed to provide the initial metal and crystal required to start developing a colony.
All resources sent in the colony ship's hold will be transferred to the new colony. In addition, any resources in the holds of other ships sent along with it on the colonization mission will be deposited on the planet. The other ships will not remain on the new colony though, but return with empty holds to the planet they came from.
Evaluation
Uses and Advantages
The colony ship is a special vessel used to colonize new planets. It is the only ship that can undertake the colonization mission type. You can also use them as fleet saving tools, if recyclers or Death Stars aren't giving you the time you need to fleetsave, the slow Colony Ship might be a viable option. One type of fleetsave uses the colonization mission type, provided you do not have an empty colony slot.
Shortcomings
The colony ship is slow and really only has one purpose, so is not useful in large numbers. Besides the ability to start a new colony, these ships can also be used for some types of fleetsave. Although the colony ship has the same attack power as the Light Fighter with 7.5 times the armor, it is not cost effective to build in large numbers. Plus, it is one of the slower ships.
